The Material Emancipation Grid is a work-in-progress item added by the Portal Gun Mod. It is currently unusable. When attempting to use it, a message will appear, saying "I told you not to use it!".
Previously, placing two Material Emancipation Grids would create a configurable field affecting the player or entities in various ways, such as, for example, deleting a player's inventory, erasing his portals, destroying living entities. They would emit a light level of 8.[1] It is unknown whether these features will be retained or not, or in which way the Material Emancipation Grid will be modified in future versions of the mod.
