Page moving[edit]
Hi there, thanks for contributing to the wiki. A few things regarding the copy-paste transfer of your draft article Thermal Expansion from userspace:
- The wiki has a built-in page move/rename function, which transfers the entire edit history along with the current page content and leaves entries in the move log and is practically always better than plain copy-paste. The difference between copy-paste and "real" move is minor with drafts that only one user has worked on, but for other articles the edit history needs to be kept for licensing/attribution reasons, and old revisions may be useful in some other cases as well. Pages can be moved by users in the contrib group, but you can leave a move request on the page by adding the Move template at the top:
{{move|<reason>}}
. - There is also a delete function to properly delete pages rather than blanking them, which is also limited to the contrib group and also has a request template:
{{delete|<reason>}}
. Deletion requests in your own userspace are generally done without discussion and should happen quickly. - Instead of deleting a page it is also possible to automatically redirect it to a new page by replacing its content with
#REDIRECT [[new page name]]
. This is once again more important for mainspace than userspace.
Let me know on my talk page if you have any questions, and feel free to post in the Wiki Discussion section of our forums. --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 18:21, 11 November 2014 (CET)
- Thank you! I had not realized there was a move template I could use in lieu of permissions. I appreciate the delete. Will keep in mind, -- VanDerProtofsky (talk) 18:27, 11 November 2014 (CET)
WIP template[edit]
FYI, the {{WIP}} template is used to mark blocks/items/mods that are not fully functional yet. Articles with little content should be marked with {{stub}}. --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 13:47, 12 November 2014 (CET)
- Understood; I had made the assumption that the lock is a WIP as TE4 as a whole is WIP. It does seem functionally complete.. should I leave out WIP? Thank you for the article fixes, I will keep the changes in mind for future articles. -- VanDerProtofsky (talk) 13:54, 12 November 2014 (CET)
- TE4 and Thermal Foundation are still WIP in general, mainly because they aren't quite done splitting TE into multiple mods yet. Items that are complete and working don't need the WIP tag IMO, for example the general state of TE4 doesn't affect the security lock in its functionality.
- Thanks for the edits by the way, as you might be able to tell we were lacking some information about the newer TE versions. Much appreciated :) --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 18:38, 12 November 2014 (CET)
Promotion[edit]
Hey, I've added you to Contributor user group, you can now move and delete wiki pages, patrol the edits of other users and quickly roll back the changes made by others. Use these features wisely. Thanks for the edits, keep up the good work! -- OstPavel (talk • contributions) 19:29, 12 November 2014 (CET)
