The Item Filter is an upgrade item added by the Extra Utilities mod. Added to a Transfer Node it will filter up to nine types of items. To configure the Filter, 'Right-click' with it in hand to bring up an inventory interface and place the items to filter. A "ghost" image of the item is stored in the Filter. Once configured the Item Filter may be inserted into another Filter to create advanced behaviours or used in a Node. This method of configuration allows filters to be swapped between Nodes easily. The filters may be upgraded to different modes with shapeless crafting. The Filter may also be used with the Trash Can by placing it in the slot (it will not be discarded).

Tips[edit]

Filters match any item that matches any single one of its slots (logical OR). To match with logical AND, you can either put multiple filters in a transfer node, or you can use inverted filters and De Morgan's laws to craft a single filter that matches with AND. This is particularly useful in combination with Advanced Item Filters. For example, to make a filter that matches all Pulverizable things but not Coal, place an inverted Advanced Item Filter running Pulverizer.exe along with a Coal item together in an inverted Item Filter. The resultant filter will match NOT (NOT Pulverizer.exe OR Coal) which is equivalent by De Morgan's laws to ([NOT NOT] Pulverizer.exe) AND (NOT Coal).
