The Nether Quartz Ore is a vanilla Minecraft ore block. It is only found in the Nether, where it appears commonly embedded in Netherrack, most abundant between level 12 and 80. When mined, it produces one Nether Quartz, which can be used for things such as the Pillar Quartz Block and Daylight Sensor. Nether Quartz can be substituted with Certus Quartz for many uses, this is particularly useful for Players wanting to set-up an ME Network, as it is more readily available, albeit a bit more involved to access. With the Nether Ores mod installed, mining the Nether Quartz doesn't anger nearby Zombie Pigman, unlike the ores added by the mod. The Nether Quartz Ore block is one of the few sources of the Tempus Aspect from Thaumcraft 3. Mining Nether Quartz Ore adjacent to another Nether ore can cause it to explode, which can even cause a chain reaction; using a Silk Touch pick can prevent such explosions.
